Library's Featured Book Not For Landlubbers
AV News staff report

PALMDALE –The City Library has selected The Watery Part of the World by Michael Parker as the Featured Book of the Month for February.

“This month’s selection is fiction based on historical fact,” said Librarian Debbie Melin. “It’s a tale of pirates and slaves, treason and treasures, madness and devotion, that takes place on a tiny island battered by storms, infested with mosquitoes, and cut off from the word, as difficult to get to as it is impossible to leave for those who call it home.”

“Author Parker weaves a tale based on the 1813, disappearance of Theodosia Burr Alston, daughter of vice president Aaron Burr. Presumed captured at sea, Theodosia lives out her life on a small barrier island off the coast of North Carolina. The island has many stories to tell including those of Theodosia’s great great granddaughters and that of a freed black man who took care of Theodosia’s family for generations,” Melin said.

Parker is the author of five novels, Hello Down There, Towns Without Rivers, Virginia Lovers, If You Want Me to Stay, and The Watery Part of the World. The Watery Part of the World is available for check out from the Palmdale City Library.
