Roommate Held In Shooting Death Of Palmdale Man

PALMDALE - Nicholas Harper, 23, has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of his roommate, 21-year-old James McElroy, in a Palmdale house they shared late Tuesday night.

McElroy was shot at the home located in the 38000 block of 20th Street East about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday and later declared dead at a nearby hospital, according to reports from sheriff's deputies and Ed Winter of the coroner's office.

Harper was booked on suspicion of manslaughter and is being held on $25,000 bail, deputies said. He was scheduled to appear in court in Lancaster on Friday. A firearm allegedly used in the crime was recovered.
  
A motive for the crime was not immediately disclosed.
