DA Not Sent Letter In Queen Dispute After All

LEONA VALLEY – In the newest twist in the Jr. Miss AV Pageant saga, a representative of the Leona Valley Improvement Association, which sponsor the Jr. Miss Leona Valley Pageant, said Friday the association members changed their minds and decided not to send a letter to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. AV News was given a copy of that letter Wednesday and told that it had been sent to the district attorney’s office.

They did, however, send a letter to the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds and an email to a director of the Jr. Miss AV Pageant.

“We don’t have an address for the pageant,” said Ann Bright, liaison for the association. “So we sent a letter by email to the only person we knew to contact – jmavsparklequeen.”

According to Bright, the association has decided to wait for answers to questions posed in the email to Jr. Miss AV Pageant directors before sending any correspondence to the district attorney.

However, by Friday afternoon, the letter and email still had not received any response for the Jr. Miss AV Pageant directors, Bright said.

And, Bright said, contrary to what was stated in the Jr. Miss AV Pageant email that community queens recently received, there was never any packet of information given to the group nor has their been in the past years.

In contrast to the Little Miss and Miss AV pageants, the Jr. Miss AV directors hold their pageant at the end of the reigning year so that the winner “will be older than the new community queens,” Bright said.

Although, Aspen Brito, the contestant chosen by the judges of the Jr. Miss AV pageant, has been asked to return her crown, sash and trophy and another chosen to serve as Jr. Miss AV, the association still wants answers about the contest and how it is run.

“By doing this, it is our hope to prevent this from happening again to another young lady in the future,” Bright said.
