Thursday Groundbreaking Set For Transit Village

PALMDALE – City officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Transit Village development located next to the Palmdale Transportation Center/Metrolink Station.

 

The innovative residential and mixed-use development is an area bounded generally by Sierra Highway, Technology Drive, Third Street East and Avenue Q-3.

 

According to city officials, the development will provide workforce housing as well as affordable housing opportunities for low Income and moderate-income households in the city. The 121-unit townhome project (16 one-bedroom, 72 two-bedroom, 12 three bedroom and 21 four bedroom) and 156 rentable apartments, will have amenities available for Transit Village as well as nearby residents.

 

The State of California is providing $9.2 million dollars in Prop 1C funds to build the project, which is part of Palmdale’s overall vision to create an intermodal transportation hub unlike any other in the nation.

 

Scheduled to attend the groundbreaking Thursday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. are Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford; Palmdale City Councilmembers; Economic Development Manager David Walter; Housing Manager Mike Miller; City staff; Matt Tambor, Community Development Associates; representatives from CITI Community Capital - Citigroup Global Markets Inc; representatives from Raymond-James Tax Credit Funds, Inc.; representatives from the Michaels Organization; and representatives from the Department of Housing and Community Development.

 

The groundbreaking will take place on the north side of Avenue Q at 4th Street East.
